PhD Position: Research for Internet Resilience
Full-time PhD Position in Internet Measurement and Research for a Resilient Internet
The INET research group is offering a PhD position in the field of Internet Measurement and Network Analysis. The position is part of the research project ALL#Hands, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to data-centric network monitoring to improve Internet resilience and security. Joining the INET team will allow you both conducting cutting-edge research and contributing to open-source software projects in collaboration with relevant Internet stakeholders.
You will design and implement Internet measurement methods and tools, as well as analyze resulting mass data leveraging AI methods. Our research team in Hamburg is internationally diverse and enjoys systems research. You will also closely collaborate with our TU Dresden partners and with national ISPs and IXPs as well as the global Internet community. We present our work not only at top-tier conferences such as ACM CCS, ACM CoNEXT, ACM IMC, and ACM SIGCOMM, but also at RIPE meetings and the IETF/IRTF.
The ideal candidate will have thorough expertise and practical experience in
- network security and measurement
- programming distributed software and systems in C++
- open communication standards
- state of the art methods for software development and testing
- distributed software projects with an open source preference
Specific experience in any of the following skills are considered a plus:
- large-scale data analysis with Polars or Pandas
- network anomaly detection
- AI algorithms and statistical analytics
- formal background in mathematical modeling
This position is limited until December 2028 (with options for extension). The salary is according to Entgeltgruppe E13 TV-L. A PhD option is part of this offer.
Minimum qualification: Master in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or closely related fields
